Pledge 1%: A small way to make a bigger impact tomorrow.

We at Caselden Consulting are highly principled individuals. 🙂
When we founded our company in 2017, we set out 5 principles to guide how we serve and interact with our clients and the world around us. One of those principles is “Everything is connected and we all do better together.” At the heart of this principle is a belief we share that no one succeeds alone and nothing truly exists in isolation. The challenges most organisations look to solve are too large and hairy for individuals to tackle on their own, and our world is a truly complex web of interconnected ecosystems. The actions we take in one seemingly unrelated space can have profound impacts in ways we often overlook; climate change is a perfect example. Additionally, we see open communication, a diversity of ideas & experience, and community involvement as key pillars to building a sustainable, healthy future not only for our company but for our society and our planet. After all, what good really is any business that doesn’t improve our world? Profit alone can’t be the sole motive.
In keeping with these beliefs, we chose to join Pledge 1% in 2019 to help support causes which inspire us or provide something we believe is sorely needed in our world. Pledge 1% is a global movement to create a new normal where giving back is integrated into the DNA of companies of all sizes. Pledge 1% encourages and challenges individuals and companies to Pledge 1% of equity, profit, product, and/or employee time to their communities and any cause they choose. And they make it EASY! Launched in December 2014, Pledge 1% is spearheaded by Salesforce, Atlassian, Rally, and Tides. Over 8,500 companies in over 100 countries have taken the pledge to date, and we’re proud to have joined them in this effort to give back.
While 2019 had been a great year for our business, we faced a seemingly nonstop stream of tragedies in Q4. It served as a stark reminder that there’s way more to life than business and work, and the personal toll this took on us left us feeling 1% just wasn’t enough. Despite the pain we’d faced ourselves, there are many others in the world whose need far outweighs our own. So for 2019 we opted to each select a charity to support with a 1% donation of our profits and double our commitment to giving.
Mindi selected Down Syndrome Ireland to help them continue to provide support and services to people with Down syndrome and their families throughout Ireland. Our 7 year old niece is a person with Down syndrome who has touched so many lives with her infectious smile; we can’t help but believe that others like her and their families deserve access to information, practical help, and support for their journey through life.
Jeff selected Pieta House to support their continued efforts to provide free-of-charge support to individuals impacted by suicidal distress and self-harm to people across Ireland. Having lost his father to suicide at 17 and with us both having lost a dear friend to suicide in October as well, the need to support those struggling with mental health issues in today’s frenetic world is of paramount importance to us.
We hope that in sharing our story, we might inspire or encourage others to take action within their own organisations and help create a better world where companies drive more positive impacts than for their shareholders alone. If either of our choices for 2019 resonate with you, you can donate to DSI or Pieta House today.
Thanks,
Mindi & Jeff
PS: another one of our principles is “Think long-term and never stop improving”, so if you’ve ideas on considerations around how to make an even more positive impact in 2020, we’d love to hear them. 🙂 One of the things we’re looking at is The 100… Please check it out!
